A photobook exploring ambiguous viewpoints and shifting directions in landscape imagery.
“Vertical Shift” is a new work by Norwegian photographer and video artist Marte Aas. Her new work, composed of a series of photographs depicting various landscapes that include both artificial structures and elements of nature.
These abstract images share a common quality of ambiguous viewpoints and shifting directions. As if suspending gravity, the work suggests a more fluid way of seeing the world.
In doing so, it gestures toward other possible ways of being in the world—shaped by multifaceted and unexpected narratives, seeking not to control the gaze, but to release it. Limited edition of 250 copies. Book ReviewLoosening the Gaze: Marte Aas, “Vertical Shift” (Essay by Yukihito Kono)
