(Signed) Stattsgrenze 1981-1983 by Seiichi Furuya
A collection of works by Japanese photographer Seiichi Furuya.
This book was published in conjunction with the solo exhibition "Wo die Wahrheit liegt", which took place at the Heidelberger Kunstverein in Doyle from August 30 to November 2, 2014. In 1983, Furuya produced a portfolio of photographs taken between 1981 and 1983 on the borders between Austria and Eastern Europe, entitled "Borders 1981 - 1983" Part 1. No further works were produced, but after 30 years, the project has finally come to an end and been published in book form. For Furuya, who was born in Japan, where borders are naturally defined by the sea, it was a fascinating fact that a border runs through the middle of the country, separating people, cultures and ideologies. While the world focused on the border between East and West Germany, Furuya took the border areas with Hungary, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia and created a political and personal document of modern history. Guided by the interplay between the personal and the political, between personal opinion and archival material, Furuya connects places and stories to create documents of historical value.
