Adieu A X by Nakahira Takuma
A collection of works by Japanese photographer Takuma Nakahira.
Since losing part of his memory and language ability due to acute alcohol poisoning, Nakahira has continued to create works that reject the concepts of "are, bure, and fuzzy." This book was shot entirely on black-and-white negatives, and while it is an extension of his previous work, "A New Gaze" (1983), it also gives the impression of searching for a landing point somewhere between his earlier works. There is also a sense of overlap with the hardships and recovery that Daido Moriyama went through in the ten years between "Goodbye Photography" (1972) and "Light and Shadow" (1982).
"Why did I decide on the title of this book, "Adieu a X"? I want to say "goodbye" to many things. To many "photographs" in this world, and to many different people. I might even go so far as to say that this would be my last photo book, and suddenly I remembered the French phrase "goodbye X," so I decided on this title." - Takuma Nakahira (from the afterword)
