Steven Leiber Catalogs
Considered a pioneer of today's art dealers, collectors, and gallerists, and one of the earliest artists to focus on the dematerialized art forms of the 1960s and 1970s, Steven Leiber produced 52 dealer catalogs during his lifetime between 1992 and 2010. This 252-page collection includes 52 dealer catalogs.
An expert in the then-nascent field of artist archives and ephemera, Leiber opened the Steven Leiber Basement in 1987. Recognizing the important role of ephemera and paper documents in conceptual art and other avant-garde movements, his catalogs have become a key resource for scholars, curators, and art collectors. Paying tribute to historic publications and multiple works, such as Wallace Berman's magazine Semina and exhibition catalog Documenta V (1972), the collection also features works by John Baldessari, Lynda Benglis, Ray Johnson, and Lucy Lippard. R. Lippard, Allan Kaprow, Yayoi Kusama, Claes Oldenburg His reputation gradually grew through his unique publications, including works by John Oldenburg, Lawrence Weiner, and many others.
Inspired by Leiber's occasional borrowing of designs from other artist books, the book's design echoes that of Sol LeWitt's legendary 1980 anthology, Autobiography.
