O ─ Daniel Reuter and Umihara Chikara
Roma Publications/Arts Council Luxembourg
A photobook by Luxembourgish photographer Daniel Reuter and Japanese photographer Chikara Umihara, exploring Osaka’s waterfront through a month-long collaborative residency.
O is a photobook by Luxembourgish photographer Daniel Reuter and Japanese photographer Chikara Umihara.
The work emerged from a month-long collaborative residency in Osaka. Staying in a narrow house overlooking the Okawa River, the two photographers took daily walks through the city and travelled towards the vast industrial areas stretching along Osaka Bay.
All of the photographs in the book were made during this period, with each photographer contributing half of the images. However, the authorship of individual photographs is deliberately left unidentified. At the shifting edges of the city, forms of global infrastructure intersect with the slower, subjective time experienced in everyday life.
The book was published as part of the art programme of the Luxembourg Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
