Letter to Saint-Leu by Moriyama Daimichi
A collection of works by Japanese photographer Daido Moriyama.
This book is made up of photographs taken by Moriyama in various parts of Japan, and was created as an "album of light and things" dedicated to Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, the first person in the world to successfully freeze images and create photographic images. At first glance, the composition of the book resembles a plain illustration, but it actually highlights the strength and graphical sense of Moriyama's photographs.
"In July 1827, a photograph that will forever be remembered worldwide was taken. The subject of the world's first photograph was a midday summer landscape seen from a second-floor window of a mansion built on an estate called "Gras" in the village of Saint-Loup-de-Vinrennes, located on the outskirts of Chalon-sur-Saône, a small city in Burgundy, central France. The name of the great photographer who succeeded in capturing the photograph was a middle-aged man named Nicéphore Niépce, an inventor and chemist who had a laboratory in the mansion." - Daido Moriyama
