Moriyama Daido Photo Collection (3): Goodbye to the photos
Moriyama, who joined Provoke as a member from its second issue, had already shown glimpses of an even more radical take on "are bure boke," but this book, published in 1972, reached its pinnacle in one fell swoop. Fragmentary images such as cuts made when winding the film, fallen negatives, and copies of posters and televisions come flooding in like a flood. It is an incredible work that seems to express in photographs a world in which everything is reduced to images, and it is easy to understand why he fell into a slump ten years later. At the end of the book there is also an important conversation with his friend and rival Nakahira Takuma.
This book is the third volume of the "Moriyama Daido Photo Collection," a series in which the photographer himself has joined the direction of the designer Satoru Machiguchi to revive out-of-print works with new printing and design. This is the definitive series that revives early masterpieces with triple-tone printing, reproducing them in the same image size as when they were first published, and also includes the full text of the conversation with Takuma Nakahira.
