A collection of works by Japanese fashion brand PUGMENT.

PUGMENT was established in 2014 by Karin Imafuku and Masahiro Otani. Since then, he has gone beyond the framework of ready-to-wear and haute couture to create alternative designs and works based on the history and circumstances of fashion itself.

This book was published in conjunction with PUGMENT's 2018AW collection, "1XXX-2018-2XXX". This collection is based on the setting of science fiction based on the changes in Japanese clothing since the Meiji period.In a world where humans do not exist, fashion has intentions and emotions, and it is a fictional story that possesses clothes. The story critically captures the relationship between Japanese fashion and the body.

The

collection pieces and the March 2018 show at Komagome Soko were shot by Kenta Kobayashi, a photographer of the same generation as them. Kobayashi's work is characterized by bold editing using image editing software on the photographs he has taken himself, and in this work he also newly uses the method of negative-positive inversion. Independent publisher Newfave, which produces collections of the works of next-generation photographers such as Daisuke Yokota, and graphic designer Shun Ishizuka, will present a vast collection of photographs by Kobayashi and PUGMENT's own research on the history of Japanese fashion. The text is organized as an art book.
