In "Now Will Not Be With Us Forever", van Es addresses one of the essential qualities of photography: the preservation of fleeting time. His subjects include intimate details from his everyday surroundings and closest relations: his younger brother on the way to school each morning, his grandfather removing a sweater, textures of carpets and blankets, clothes and interiors of the family home, and his father’s car waiting to pick him up at the station.

Collected into eight booklets, these images convey van Es’s tender gaze and affection toward his subjects, expressed through a method that is at once fragmentary and systematic—seemingly at odds with the warmth of his perspective, yet capturing it with great subtlety.
