HAMADA by Shin Hamada
A photobook by Japanese photographer Shin Hamada.
This book focuses on the statement made by Hamada in his profile—"primarily working in portraiture, documentary, and reportage"—and chronicles the process of completing a single volume over the course of roughly a year. The record of that process itself becomes the content of the work, forming a documentary photobook.
In recent years Hamada has expanded his activities beyond photography, employing three-dimensional objects and moving images, among other forms. Here, his motivation toward making and his methods are rendered self-referentially visible through the medium of the book.
Produced as the second collaborative publication with the design studio Tanuki.
First edition of 100 copies.
