The Minute You Have a Minute is a photobook by Spanish artist Coco Capitán, produced as part of Belmond’s artist book series. For this volume, Capitán photographed the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in spring 2023 and winter 2024, responding to the iconic train through her intuitive and deeply personal visual approach.
Capitán has long been drawn to older modes of travel—cruisers, yachts, vintage cars and, above all, classic rail journeys—so the chance to photograph the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, with its original 1920s carriages and historic European routes, was irresistible. Working largely by instinct, she built relationships with the train staff that overlapped with the bonds she already shared with the friends travelling alongside her. The resulting images move fluidly between playful snapshots and contemplative moments. Together with the book’s title, they suggest that even within a glamorous world, the pilgrimage remains as important as the destination, because such realities are always fleeting and soon belong to someone else.
