Migrations, Cherbourg by Alexandre Guirkinger

RVB Books

The 18 landscape photographs included in this book were taken in October 2020 through a photography workshop led by French photographer Alexandre Gilkinger and organized by the art center and publisher "Le Point du Jour" in collaboration with the non-profit organization "Itinérance". The workshop was attended by six immigrants recently settled in Cherbourg, a port city located in northwestern France at the tip of the Cotentin peninsula jutting out into the English Channel, and supported by "Itinérance". Ahmad Agadagib, Fahim Ahmad, Mamadou Bailo Bar, Amin Jouadi, Abdullaqer Oushrov, and Abdulfahim Zahir began by listing the places that have left an impression on them since their arrival in the city, places they visit daily, places they particularly like, and places that symbolize France. They listed the places that had left an impression on them since their arrival in the city, places they visited daily, places they particularly liked, and places that symbolized France. After initial research, the six participants engaged in a dialogue with Alexandre Gilkinger and took landscape photographs using a large format 8 x 10 inch camera. All participants printed contact sheets of their photographs and produced captions in their native languages.
