(Signed) I hide myself within my flower by Mariken Kramer

An artist book by Oslo-based artist Mariken Kramer.

This artist book combines photographs and text. The photographs capture a variety of wild plants gathered in the meadows and mountain slopes of “Rai,” a mountain farm situated at an altitude of 900 metres, deep in the Mjøsa region—home to Norway’s tenth-largest lake.

The accompanying texts form fragments of a larger narrative, recalling the final days the artist spent with her mother and the memories that resurfaced during the last night by her side. Each passage, like the photographs, is numbered and titled with the name of a plant.

The book’s design and references evoke the visual language of botanical encyclopaedias and herbariums. At the same time, the photographs resonate with the tradition of still life, echoing vanitas motifs that reflect on mortality and the transience of life.

The cover is made from handmade paper produced using the very plants depicted in the book. Limited edition of 300 copies, each signed and hand-numbered by the artist.
