Currently in progress: IACK Collection: Artists' Books by Seiichi Furuya

IACK is currently holding an exhibition of artist books produced to date by Seiichi Furuya, a Japanese photographer living in Austria, as the first in the "IACK Collection" series, an exhibition of artist books collected by IACK.

Furuya is widely known for his series "Mémoires," which is themed on his late wife, but he has also produced many other excellent works. This exhibition explores the possibilities of "storytelling" through photography by focusing on a side of the artist that may have been overlooked due to the extremely strong drama of "Mémoires" and the expression of that side.

In addition to the collection of works from IACK's early to recent years, the venue will also be selling the artist's latest book, "First Trip To Bologna 1978 / Last Trip To Venice 1985." Please take advantage of this opportunity to visit.

Seiichi Furuya
Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1950. After graduating from Tokyo Polytechnic University, he traveled to Europe from Yokohama Port on the Trans-Siberian Railway in 1973, and worked as an interpreter and editor mainly in Austria while creating his own works. He is best known for his series of works "Mémoires," which are based on his wife Christine, who took her own life in 1985, but he also left behind a series of other excellent works, including "AMS," a collection of snapshots taken in Amsterdam in 1980, and "Border (STAATSGRENZE) 1981-1983," which was shot on the Austrian border between 1981 and 1983. He has also been involved in a wide range of important work, such as introducing Japanese photographers to Europe and European photographers to Japan as one of the founders of the Austrian photography magazine "Camera Austria."
