The Absence Of Mark Manders, Bonnefanten by Mark Manders
A collection of works by Dutch artist Mark Manders.
This book was published as the exhibition catalogue for "The Absence Of Mark Manders," a major retrospective held at the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, in the southeastern corner of the Netherlands. Each room is considered a "self-portrait as building," an ongoing project by the artist. Works are "left behind" by the artist, and visitors progress through three areas: the living room, the museum, and the studio. According to Manders, the works are all interchangeable and "can be used in different combinations, like words in a sentence."
The works are beautifully printed on calm matte paper, and the book is mainly comprised of illustrations, making it a recommended choice for those who want to enjoy the works themselves. The book also includes an essay by curator Douglas Fogle, focusing on the role of language in Manders's work.
