I Have No Idea What I’m Doing Out of Bed is an artist’s book by French artist Thomas Lélu. In October 2022, after a period of intensive work with collage and image manipulation, Lélu returned to a more direct practice and began a series of handwritten texts made in ballpoint pen in a notebook. Since then, he has maintained the habit of writing at least five sentences a day in a sketchbook, producing more than 500 to date.

Ranging from humorous and sharp-witted to biting and provocative, the texts collected here invite a quiet reflection on the contemporary moment and its many forms of excess.
