Hotel Mermaid Club is the first photobook by Chris Rhodes and serves as a quiet homage to the everyday. Shot over seven years across eight countries, the images subtly transform familiar landscapes into a world that feels calm, poetic, and tinged with melancholy. Through his use of colour and framing, Rhodes reconfigures the mundane into a personal and distinctive aesthetic. While traditional portraiture is absent, a sense of humanity emerges through narrative—within the spaces we inhabit and the overlooked objects that surround us.

Evoking the work of photographers such as Joel Sternfeld, William Eggleston, and Stephen Shore, Rhodes’s colour photographs gently distort reality, creating a poetic and surreal mirror of the world around us.
