Turistica by Carlo Rusca
A collection of works by Italian photographer/videographer Carlo Rusca.
Rusca, who grew up in Locarno in southern Switzerland, left her hometown for Lugano in southern Switzerland around 2010 to attend university. After he graduated he got a job first in Hamburg and then in Brazil. Returning to his hometown in 2016, he was deeply disturbed by the sight of his hometown, a place he once knew but no longer knew. During the insomnia that resulted from the gap, Ruska walked around outside with her camera at night. There was no particular purpose, and it was probably something like a form of therapy, an act of objectively capturing my hometown as a subject and determining the appropriate sense of distance. The low-contrast photos seem to reflect Ruska's feelings at the time. He ended up shooting for over three years, and the photos were selected from a plethora of images through a rigorous editorial process.
