Things That Go Together by Michael Anastassiades
The first collection of works by British lighting and furniture designer Michael Anastassiades, known for his iconic lighting fixtures that combine circles and straight lines.
Using the works from the 2019 exhibition as a starting point, he explores his own approach to design. Objects found by the artist in nature and selected from his collection are carefully arranged to form a system of "constellations" and "things that harmonize with each other" depicted by the objects. The essay that accompanies the photographs in the exhibition describes the artist's early days on the island of Cyprus, the influence of the island's natural environment and local artists, and the psychological connections people share with the things around them. You can see a spirit of inquiry and a deep understanding of the unpredictability of nature and design as well as form and scale.
