Sleeping by the Mississippi by Alec Soth
A collection of works by American photographer Alec Soth.
This was Soth's first book, published by the German publisher Steidl in 2004, and quickly established his reputation as a photographer. Despite being considered a historical masterpiece, it remained difficult to obtain, but in 2017, 13 years after its publication, the British publisher MACK produced a reprint that added two new previously unpublished works.
Centering on a road trip along the Mississippi River in the United States, the "Third Coast" is an iconic part of America that is often forgotten. This work carefully depicts the people, landscapes, and buildings that live there, and even the sadness of human beings, such as loneliness, longing, and fantasy, can be felt from the photographs.
First production version poster included.
