This book contains photographs of German soldiers on the battlefield during World War II. There is neither dignity nor humility in war. Kessels reveals a particularly grisly aspect of warfare, a spectacle not usually found in history books. Despite the horror and chaos of conflict, some aspects of everyday life continue even on the battlefield.
