Mémoires 1978-1988 by Seiichi Furuya

Edition Camera Austria/Neue Galerie am Landesmuseum Joanneum

This collection of works was published as a catalog for Furuya's first solo exhibition of Christine's work, which was held in 1989, four years after Christine's death, at the Joanneum Art Museum in Graz, where Christine was working part-time.

This was the first volume in the "Mémoires" series, which would be produced over the next 30 years, and features photographs taken from his meeting with Christine in 1978 until their tragic separation in 1988, arranged in a personal composition that strongly conveys a narrative. In addition to the portraits of Christine and her son Koumei that appear repeatedly in the subsequent "Mémoires" series, the book also uses photographs from "AMS" published in 1981 and those that would later be released as "Staatsgrenze 1981-1983," providing a strong reminder that this work and Christine are always at the center of Furuya's artistic world.

Winner of the Europe Kodak Photo Book Award and the Photographic Society of Japan Award.
