Christine Furuya-Gössler Mémoires, 1978-1985 by Seiichi Furuya

This third book, "Mémoires," published in 1997, takes a different approach to dialogue with Christine. From the end of 1995 to April 1996, Furuya printed Christine's photographs onto B5-sized photographic paper, wrote data on the back of the prints, and filed them in chronological order. This book, which was produced based on these four files, is a departure from the previous mixed-photo composition, arranging the photographs in chronological order, and on the back page of each photograph, along with the work data, Furuya writes a text recalling the time. In "Christine Furuya-Gössler Mémoires, 1978-1985," the artist seems to be archiving her mixed memories, reminiscing about their time and events, while also trying to reexamine them more calmly. A traveling exhibition was held at nine galleries in Tokyo and Yokohama to coincide with the publication.

"This photobook [Christine Furuya-Gössler Mémoires, 1978-1985] is based on the book "Portrait of Christine," which I created between the end of 1995 and April 1996. The book is made up of photographs of Christine taken over the seven years and eight months between February 17, 1978, when Christine and I first met in Graz, and her death on October 7, 1985 in East Berlin. The book is organized chronologically and, as far as possible, chronologically. The desire to create the book came suddenly. I suddenly wanted to see and know things that I didn't want to see or know.
