Aramame by mame & Nobuyoshi Araki

黒河内デザイン事務所

A collection of works by fashion brand "mame" and photographer Nobuyoshi Araki.

This book was created when Mame designer Maiko Kurokawa came across Nobuyoshi Araki's work "Arakiri," which is a work made by cutting two different photographs down the middle and pasting them together to create one piece, when she wanted to express the brand's intentions more strongly in a way that was different from the lookbooks released every season. The book is bound in an accordion style, with photographs printed on both sides. The bright red cloth cover seems to reflect the worldview and passion of both artists, and at the same time, it tightens up the entire work.

"The beauty and sexiness I felt when I saw Araki's work in person was consistent with what I wanted to express through mame. The vague memory that I felt when I saw his work was connected to my own clothing design. Just as there are things that can only be perceived by capturing an image in a photograph, there are also things you can only feel when you actually wear clothes. Araki photographed a woman wearing mame, and then manually pasted the resulting positive film together with another positive film to create 'Aramame', which I believe encapsulates the things that I value."
