Horizontal Line Collection by Hiroshi Yamazaki
A collection of works by Japanese photographer Hiroshi Yamazaki.
Born in 1946, Hiroshi Yamazaki is one of Japan's leading conceptual photographers, known for his Heliography series, which records the sun's trajectory through long exposure photography. This work is a collection of his series of photographs that record horizons, which he began producing in 1974, and includes a text by Seigo Matsuoka in the preface. As Matsuoka has interpreted it, "Instead of making the photograph serve the concept, I make the concept serve the photograph," the photographs taken in various locations over a period of six years from 1974 to the 1980s are highly regarded as important works that explore and practice how conceptual work can be created from the context of photography.
