En regardant… by Local Artist

An artist book by Japanese photographer Local Artist.

"En regardant…" follows Local Artist’s previous work, "QUAND ON EST ÉTUDIANT, ON VOUDRAIT UN PEU MOINS COMPTER SUR SES PARENTS", but marks a notable shift in both form and intention. While the earlier work embraced the casual immediacy of a wide-angle iPhone lens and explored the theme of “not seeing”—including the photographer’s own ambivalence—this new book is constructed as an exhibition document and was photographed with the deliberate precision of a 100mm telephoto lens on a film SLR.

“If the previous work was about not seeing it,” the artist writes, “then this one is about seeing it.”

Minimal in format and concise in scope, the work draws attention to the act of looking itself, reframing the photographic gesture as one of heightened attention and choice.
