Virtual Mass by Antoine Martin

A collection of works by Swiss-based artist Antoine Martin.

For over two years, the artist has been researching insecam.com, a website that publishes real-time security camera footage from vulnerable security installations around the world. He has focused in particular on the phenomenon of the "virtual mass," which has grown exponentially during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a world where online meetings and the digitalization of information are becoming trends, the work shows the omnipresence of remote surveillance and at the same time reveals the role that new technologies play in the liturgical space. The screenshots, housed in a publication modeled after a missal book, ultimately invite the viewer to consider whether the digitalization of God's presence is possible.
