Sounds From The Island by Yukihito Kono

Yukihito Kono

A cassette tape work by Kono Yukito.

This album, his first to be released on cassette tape, is composed of songs recorded live in his small room, separated by only one wall from his bedroom, after his family had gone to bed.

In this work, Kono plays a synthesizer equipped with metal touch sensors that transmit a weak electric current through the body when touched, and the sound produced changes depending on the performer's physical and mental state and the recording environment.

The sound images of the synthesizer blend with the sounds of everyday environment, sometimes interfering with them and then quietly fading away. The work is a self-portrait-like record of life, with the artist's body, mind and room likened to an island, but also provides the viewer with a space for contemplation as ambient music.

This is the first in the series "Under Rated UR," in which artists release works that treat cassette tapes as canvases or photographic paper. In homage to "Maxell," a company that has continued to manufacture tapes that can be easily purchased at electronics stores, only UR is used, and every process, from the sound source production to the artwork and packaging, is done by hand, one by one, without the involvement of a company. This time, the music and design are by Kono.

Comes with 3 different jacket designs and a download code.
