Caruso by Letizia Le Fur
A collection of works by French photographer Laetitia Rufer.
Renowned for restoring historic buildings, the Belmond Luxury Hotel Group is currently collaborating with some of the world's leading contemporary photographers to create destination-specific portfolios, carefully pairing each artist with the personality of the selected hotel. Letizia Le Fer has photographed Belmond Hotel Caruso on Italy's Amalfi Coast in Fall 2022 and Spring 2024.
"The Caruso is a millennium old, and there is a certain genius in the way Le Fer portrays its architecture against the glittering hills and towering cliffs of this iconic Italian coastline. The almost flat reliefs are like Renaissance trompe l'oeils or the sets of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The gardens seem straight out of a Miyazaki Hayao fantasy. The photographs were taken purposefully to enhance the dreamlike, timeless aspects of the place. Le Fer sought to capture what she calls the omnipresent sun, the buttery light that bathes the 11th-century ramparts and cliff-edge gardens. All of Le Fer's subjects are bathed in light that plays characters in several acts, and it is this kaleidoscopic solar play that is at the heart of the story." - (Excerpt from the text)
