(Signed) Dry Eye Driping Stone by Line Bøhmer Løkken
A photobook by Norwegian photographer Line Bøhmer Løkken.
Several years ago, Løkken’s daughter lost sight in one eye due to a tumour near the optic nerve. This event prompted Løkken to reconsider her practice as a photographer. She began exploring the idea that photography contains both an optical way of seeing and a tactile, felt perception.
Using a method that balances sensitivity and playfulness, she sought to merge the physical sensations of texture and touch with more traditional, semiotic and visual narratives. Printed on ultra-thin 60g paper, the images in this book bleed through from one side to the other, allowing the recto and verso to merge into unfamiliar, unexpected compositions. The result is a layered visual experience, reminiscent of how memories are stored in the mind.
Løkken has long created works that respond to the unique characteristics of space, from exhibition venues to the inner and outer structures of the book. Her ongoing work with Multipress has further refined this approach, and in recent years she has come to masterfully—and delicately—unlock the full potential of the book as a medium.
