TTP by Hayahisa Tomiyasu

MACK

A collection of works by Japanese photographer Hayahisa Tomiyasu.

Composed of photographs taken from the window of the student dormitory where the author lived in Leipzig, Germany. Focusing on a ping-pong table placed in a park overlooking a south-facing room on the 8th floor, I used a deadpan style to shoot from a fixed point. In the meantime, the time, the season, and the people who visit the park change. Not only is the tischtennisplatte (table tennis table), from the title "TTP", used as the original table tennis table, but also sunbathing, skateboard obstacles, clotheslines, playground equipment for children to climb, meeting spots and busy streets. The ping-pong table has countless uses, such as an evacuation site, and each time you turn the page, you will see a different expression. As a result of the author's long curiosity, the habits and humor that permeate human behavior, and the unique temperament of each person, can be glimpsed under this humbly seated ping-pong table.

(Excerpt from distributor commentary)

Despite the very simple method and idea of fixed-point observation, the human pattern through a single ping-pong table is skillfully projected. Public objects appear to us as part of the universal landscape because they are public, but precisely because they are actually public, there is a point of contact between the public and private spheres in each person's life. It makes me feel that the gaps and the various ways of "universality" that each person holds come to the fore.
