(Mint) May The Circle Remain Unbroken by Corinne Day
A photo book by British photographer Corinne Day.
Day began her career as a fashion photographer in the early 1990s. At a time when the fashion world was dominated by glamorous and sexy women, she stuck to a realistic, documentary style that captured her subjects as they were, and gained instant attention when she photographed unknown model Kate Moss. This approach would go on to have a major impact on subsequent fashion photography.
This book, Day's first published collection of her work since her death in 2010, was approximately three years in the making and was co-edited by her husband, filmmaker Mark Sergy, Gimpel Fils Gallery owner Jackie Halliday, Aaron Morell of the publishing company Mörel, and her longtime friend and muse Tara Hill.
In addition to his early works, which will be shown for the first time, the book also includes many representative works from 1987 to 1996, which marked a turning point for him as a photographer. Many of the works are comprised of snapshots of the daily lives of friends taken at his flat in Soho, London, making it a book that truly evokes the "unbroken circle of friendship" as the title suggests.
The title is taken from a song by The 13th Floor Elevators, a band Day loved to listen to during his lifetime, and the typography was created by Pablo Ferro, known for his title designs for "A Clockwork Orange" and "Dr. Strangelove."
