Erik Grate by Pontus Grate & Ragnar von Holten

Sveriges Allmänna Konstförening

A collection of works by Swedish sculptor, painter, and graphic artist Eric Gleit (1896-1983).

As a sculptor, Greidt left behind many public artworks in Sweden, including the well-known sculpture "The Etymological Woman Theft" installed at the Karolinska Institute on the outskirts of Stockholm. This book is a collection of his works published in 1978 by the Swedish Public Art Association (Sveriges Allmänna Konstförening), in his later years, and contains a wealth of illustrations. The tops of the pages are not cut, which gives the impression that they somehow resonate with Greidt's works. This binding method, in which the tops of the pages are not cut, is called uncut binding, and can be said to be a remnant of the time when books were a luxury item for the wealthy. Readers would cut the pages with a paper knife as they read, and when they finished, they would rebind the book in a luxurious binding of their choice and put it away for collection. This book gives you a sense of the history and romance of bookbinding.
