Skinnerboox

A collection of works by New York-based artist Matthew Spiegelman.

"Transmitter" is an experimental photographic story about the area around two of New York's oldest radio transmission towers over a three-year period from 2014 to 2016. These images are centered around a small ledge along New York's East River that straddles two areas that were originally industrial areas and are now parks. Located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, where locals go to watch the sunset at the end of the day, it set the scene for a variety of personal connections. In these pictures, readers can see small groups chatting and couples whispering to each other. Their body language and facial expressions clearly convey a desire to connect with or be understood by others. In addition to them, you can also see people visiting the place alone to enjoy the spaciousness and the river. They usually indulge in reading with books that reveal their personal interests. In each case there is a distinct impression that deeply felt personal experiences are being communicated with the expectation of acceptance.

The photographic sequences in this book are grouped into three seamless movements, tracing the trail of the setting sun from noon to darkness in the background, while the drama of individuality and relationships unfolds in the foreground. It is
