This book contains photographs taken in Jachymov, a closed mining village located in the Karlovy Vary region of the Czech Republic. Jachymov, which was called Sankt Joachimsthal until 1945, once had a large amount of silver mined, and even introduced a local currency unit under the name of Thaler (short for Sankt Joachim thaler). rice field. The thaler then changed its name to the dollar and continues to exist at the center of the economy to this day. The region's large deposits of iron, cobalt, barite, nickel and uranium have become important resources in the industrialization of Europe. During World War II, it became a center for uranium mining as part of the Nazi plan to develop nuclear weapons, a process that continued until 1964 under communism.
